The last National Division stage of the 2013-2014 season closed on May 21. Sheriff is now 15 points ahead of the second-ranked FC Tiraspol, IPN reports.
Sheriff and FC Tiraspol dueled in the last stage and the current champion won by 1-0. The only goal was scored by Veaceslav Lisa in the 66th minute. On May 25, Sheriff meets Zimbru in the Cup’s final. The ‘yellow-greens’ finished the championship on the fourth place, beating in the last round the last-ranked Speranta 2-0. The goals were scored by Tsyganov (42nd minute) and Ademar Xavier (71st minute).
“We closed the championship on a positive note. We now have time to think how we will play in the Cup’s final. We face a number of problems and we must deal with them,” Zimbru coach Oleg Kubarev told a news conference after the match.
“Our suffering is over. I thank my team for playing this season even if they didn’t get salaries for eight months. We do not have a future with such managers. If sponsors are found, the team may play in Division A,” said Speranta coach Serghei Dubrovin.
The other matches of the 33rd stage ended as follows: Dinamo-Auto - Dacia 0-6, Olimpia - Costuleni 1-2, while Academia - Milsami 0-3.
