Moldova could have for the first time two teams in the Europa League group stage. Sheriff have participated three times, but Zimbru's qualification would be the team's best result ever. The first leg of the Europa League last qualification round will be played on August 21, IPN reports.
Zimbru will take on Greek side PAOK on home soil, at 9.05 PM, while Sheriff will travel to Croatia to play Rijeka at 10.15 PM. “It's already an achievement for us to reach this round, but we all want to qualify to the group stage. We understand that PAOK is a tough challenge”, Zimbru coach Oleg Kubarev told IPN.
Meanwhile, Sheriff's new coach, Croatian Zoran Zekic, will have his debut in European football. “I played at Rijeka and I know them pretty well. We'll do our best to eliminate them from the competition”, Zekic said on the club's official website. The second leg will be played on August 28.
