International Youth Day will be celebrated in Ungheni, which is the Youth Capital 2023. A part of the young participants in the events will get there by the “Youth Train” that on Saturday morning left the Chisinau Train Terminal. Attending the departure event, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun approved of the energy of the young people, noting that youth is not about a calendar date, but is about the state of spirit, IPN reports.
According to the minister, today is the day when energy, positivism, creativity, wish for changes and the idealism of young people are exhibited. The mission of the Ministry and the Government is to persuade the young people from Moldova to remain in the country, to start families and to assert themselves as professionals here. Many of the Government’s accomplishments made the young people to become involved to a greater extent the past two years. It goes to the introduction of the 1,000 lei allowance for children under two, the distribution of the child care leave between the mother and the father and the augmentation of stipends for professional athletes. The Ministry of Education invested over 3 million lei in the renovation of universities, dorms and vocational schools.
Attending the event, UNFPA Moldova Resident Representative Nigina Abaszada said that the young people represent half of the world’s population and they are a very important category of people. International Youth Day was instituted in a move to honor this generation and to discuss the challenges faced by the youth. The “Youth Train” is a symbol that presents the young people as agents of change and draws attention to the potential of the young people. “You are the future,” stated Nigina Abaszada.
EU Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks came with a video message for the young people. He spoke about the priory youth areas, about how the young people can become involved in social life and how they can contribute to developing communities. The European diplomat encouraged the young people to be the driving forces of change and to become models of a sustainable life as the young people are the current leaders that build the future Moldova – a modern, European country.
While travelling by the train on the Chisinau-Ungheni road, the young people will be involved in captivating activities, interactive games and thematic workshops. From the Ungheni Train Station, young locals will guide the young passengers how to reach the venue, with a stop in the center of the municipality of Ungheni, at the Independence Square and at the fountains. When reaching the Central Park “Micul Cluj”, the young people will explore personal and professional development opportunities. Young singers from Moldova and from Romania will give a performance, which will be followed by a drums recital.
In the Republic of Moldova, almost each third person is aged between 14 and 35.
International Youth Day is observed annually on August 12th. Designated by the United Nations in 1999, it is meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide and to recognize efforts of the world’s youth in enhancing global society. It also aims to promote ways to engage them in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities.
