More possibilities should be offered to the young people, but the young persons, for their part, should be more willing to take part in community life, considers Sandu Coica, president of the National Youth Council. According to him, despite the efforts made by the civil society organizations, only a small percentage of young people take an active part in community activities, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the data provided by NGOs, only 5% of the young people get involved in activities carried out by civil society. The involvement rate is higher in towns, where more projects are implemented. The young people from rural areas are more disadvantaged from this viewpoint, said Sandu Coica. He believes that a part of the blame is bore by the young generation, which is often disinterested. The young people have other preferences and priorities than to constitute youth organizations and do volunteer work. “We must not forget about the young people with potential, who want and are able to bring about changes,” said Sandu Coica. He stated that there are a number of organizations in Moldova where the young people can perform certain activities and all the NGOs should promote this movement. The National Youth Council includes 36 youth nongovernmental organizations and two regional youth councils that bring together over 50 local youth organizations.
