Several hundreds of young people on Romania’s National Day gathered in the square of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and marched towards the Embassy of Romania. The marchers carried the tricolor and chanted “Bessarabia is Romania”, Info-Prim Neo reports. The young people were mobilized through social networking sites by the groups “Romanian Spirit”, “Awakening” and “Deed, not Word”, which are members of the Civic Platform “Action 2012”. The participants in the march chanted “Long Live Moldova, Ardeal and Tara Romaneasca”, “I have only one country that I love – Bessarabia, which is Romanian land”. They carried placards with the words: “The same blood, the same country” and “United in thought and feelings”. Pavel Munteanu, the leader of the “Romanian Spirit” group, said the young people want to remind the authorities about the events that took place on December 1, 1918, when all the Romanian principates united and formed the Great Romania. “We gathered almost 400 young people in Chisinau and another 400 in Alba Iulia. We want the authorities to understand that we want a new union with Romania,” said Pavel Munteanu. At the Embassy of Romania, the young people swore an oath of allegiance to Romania. Among the marchers were elderly persons. They said that if the young people do not support the elderly people, they will not be able to achieve their goals. A man brought the ‘Union Act’, saying he knows it by heart. The event was supervised by several dozens of police officers, who intervened when a group of young people lit smoke-producing torches. Pavel Munteanu said such events have been staged for several years, both on December 1 and on March 27, when the People’s Council voted for Bessarabia’s union with Romania.
