Students of important national universities continue to express their support for Dorin Chirtoaca, who is a candidate for mayor of Chisinau municipality on behalf of the Liberal Party (PL). Related statements were made by leaders of the Liberal Students Club, who Friday spoke from a rostrum placed in front of the State University of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ion Bargan, chairman of the youth organization of the Liberal Party, said that during the election campaign the members of the party discussed with about 10,000 students in dormitories and over 50,000 students in the meetings they had in tents put up on the territory of universities. Many of those students said they will vote for Dorin Chirtoaca on June 5. “We call on all the students in Chisinau municipality to take part in the elections on Sunday and vote for Dorin Chirtoaca so that he wins the elections by the first round. We call upon the students from abroad, especially Romania, to return to Chisinau and contribute to Dorin Chirtoaca’s victory,” said Ion Bargan. He also said that they identified a number of problems that the students encounter when they vote. “We ascertained that about 600 students from two dorms of the Cooperatist Commercial Organization of Moldova will not be able to vote in Chisinau on Sunday. They have not been issued with residence visas in the dorm. It is a problem that we should address in the nearest future,” said Ion Bargan. “As a result of the voter identification campaign and discussions held with the students, rector, pro-rector and colleagues, we reached the conclusion that most of them will support Dorin Chirtoaca,” said Alexandru Topolenco, chairman of the Liberal Students Club of the Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga”. The leader of the ASEM Liberal Students Club Nicu Nastase said the students have confidence in Dorin Chirtoaca and trust that he will emerge victorious in the elections. “We, the students of the Academy of Economic Studies, want a modern, European capital and a young mayor who will promote the youth,” he stated. The Liberal Students Club includes about 500 students of universities of Chisinau, Taraclia, Balti, Comrat, and Cahul.
