A 20-year-old man was wounded fatally from a gun by a police officer in Hancesti after this entered the territory of a recreational center outside the working hours together with two friends. The prosecutors took legal action over murder, IPN reports.
Deputy Prosecutor General Igor Popa told a news conference that the owner of the recreational center and the chief of the Criminal Police of the Hancesti Police Inspectorate were detained. The incident happened last night, at 1am. Three men aged 20 decided to swim in the center’s pool without permission. The owner and the police officer, who were later preliminarily arrested, approached the young men. The policeman fired several shots in the air and in the direction of a young man who was heading for the exit. The injured man died in the Hancesti District Hospital.
According to the preliminary statements of the police officer, the firearm was used as a result of an altercation. The truthfulness of these statements is to be determined. The prosecutors are to also establish if the gun was used in the line of duty and if the authority wasn’t exceeded. The criminal case will be sent to the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office so as to exclude any possibility of partiality on the part of the prosecutors in Hancesti.
General Police Inspectorate head Alexandru Panzari said the police officer took an alcohol test and this showed he wasn’t inebriated. The prosecutors will yet decide if to ask for an arrest warrant or not.
The other two young men have been questioned, but are in a state of shock. The young men are university students and do not have a criminal past.
