The National Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squads performed 17 missions on the request of local authorities in Ștefan Vodă, Ungheni and Orhei to dispose of 350 explosive objects and about 14,000 cartriges left from the Second World War.
In the village of Răscăieți, Ștefan Vodă district, agricultural workers came across ammunition during work in the field. The Codru Battalion’s EOD squad, led by Captain Ion Golovei, went to the scene, discovering more than 300 explosive devices and nearly 4,000 cartridges.
In the same village, a EOD squad led by Captain Anatoli Gudumac found 10,000 cartridges and 17 explosives, including artillery shells and anti-personnel mines.
In January-November 2021, National Army EOD units disposed of over 1300 explosive objects and more than 27,000 rounds of ammunition. Most dated back to World War II and were a threat to the inhabitants of the localities where they were found in.
