World Bank will offer US$450 million to Moldova until 2017

Moldova will receive up to US$450 million in financial assistance from the World Bank until 2017. Healthcare and education will be the key areas that will get financing, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said after a meeting with the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Laura Tuck, who is making a visit to Chisinau, IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca stated that the World Bank is the oldest partner of Moldova. During 22 years, the Bank has assisted Moldova in fostering economic growth and in creating jobs. A number of economic entities benefitted from financial assistance in this respect.

“With the support of the World Bank, we daily show that this country can be modernized. In the meeting, we discussed the main development areas for the next period. Education and healthcare remain a priority. We also aim to promote energy security in this period,” said the Premier.

Laura Tuck said they discussed the problems covered by the World Bank’s program with Moldova. “We aim to promote competitiveness in the economy. We consider that it is very important to enhance economic competiveness,” she stated.

Laura Tuck added that the World Bank is satisfied with the partnerships established with Moldova and will further support the country’s reformation.
