The works to reinforce the dam of the Ghidighici lake, which lasted for almost a year, have been completed. The Ministry of Environment says that now the dam will serve by at least 50 years more, the protection level against floods being also increased, IPN reports.
The works were performed with the assistance of frogmen who helped clean the area from mud. The drainage channel was extended and depended.
The accumulation lake Ghidighici is public property of the state. It is administered by Moldova’s Water Agency that is managed by the Ministry of Environment. The dam was built in 1962. It was in a bad state of repair and could have burst and flooded Chisinau municipality.
The project to reinforce the dam had a budget of 3.3 million lei.
