The women’s U-17 national squad of Moldova started the 2014 European Championship qualifiers with a defeat. The team trained by Alina Stetsenko was defeated 5-0 by the similar squad of Hungary, IPN reports.

The Moldovan footballers had a disastrous start. In the 26th minute, the score was 4-0. In the second half, Hungary scored a new goal and missed many other chances. It is the goalkeeper of Moldova Margarita Panova who prevented the score from being even more shameful.

In the other match of group 5, Iceland beat Latvia 5-0. On August 1, Moldova meets Iceland in Orhei, while Latvia faces Hungary in Vadul lui Voda. The top two ranked teams and the best teams ranked third in the ten qualifying groups qualify for the next stage.

The women’s U-17 team of Moldova has taken part in the European Championship qualifiers for the sixth time. In the matches played earlier, the squad suffered only defeats, scoring only one victory against Wales in 2011.
