Women have to work two months longer than men to earn the same salary as men. The monthly salary gap exceeds 15% on average. The gap is even wider in highly skilled sectors, for example in finance and insurance, where women earn over 34% less than men.
Wage inequality is one of the most important topics addressed at the public event held on February 27, on the occasion of the Equal Pay Day in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
Organized by UN Women Moldova and the Partnership for Development Center, the event brought together government officials, experts and representatives of the business community.
"It is essential to initiate the change and find concrete solutions to ensure fair remuneration for all," said Dominika Stojanoska, UN Women Representative to Moldova.
The discussions focused on the importance of adopting efficient public policies, aimed at ensuring pay transparency and compliance with the legislation in force. The role of the private sector in applying fair pay practices and eliminating gender stereotypes, which maintain pay inequalities, was noted.
During the event, the authorities reaffirmed their commitment to reducing discrepancies, mentioning the progress made by adopting the law on pay transparency.
The event entitled "How do we initiate the change for fair remuneration?" is part of the "Zero difference, 100% transparency" campaign. The organizers said that this initiative supports the Program for Accelerating Gender Equality in Moldova for 2023-2026, which is promoted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
