The National Wine Day that is staged in Chisinau on October 7 and 8 brought together thousands of people in the Great National Assembly Square. Winemakers exhibited dozens of sorts of wine for tasting, IPN reports.

The people came to the holiday with the family and friends, to see the novelties presented by winemakers, to amuse themselves and to buy wine. Several visitors said they taste wine with pleasure, for a good mood, but do not intend to become drunk.

In the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the wine industry is a key sector of the Moldovan economy, which employs 1/3 of the active population of Moldova. “We have what to be proud of. We have legendary wines. 2% of the vineries of the world are situated in the Republic of Moldova. The situation concerning the Russian ban imposed on Moldovan wine products was overcome by our producers that successfully integrate into the market of the European Union,” stated the Premier.

Gheorghe Arpentin, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, said in the opening that the Moldovan wine was and remains the country’s best envoy. “For two days, the heart of our city will be a welcoming Big House where we will enjoy Moldova’s wines, gastronomy, culture and century-old traditions. This year’s edition is a call to consolidate the country’s winemaking and winegrowing resources,” he stated.

The opening ceremony included a wine parade. Later, the winemakers were conferred awards. The top prize of the 16th edition of the National Wine Day went to the Wine Complex “Cricova”, for the new wine called “Amplius”. For the first time, there was awarded the medal “Moldovan Wine – a Living Legend” and this was given to the winery “Salcuta”.
