Why replacing lost or stolen ID cards costs more

To get a lost or stolen ID card replaced, applicants are charged more than when getting an expired card extended or when applying for a card for the first time. In a response provided to IPN, the Public Services Agency explains the surcharge on the higher costs of the process.

“The sequence of actions for replacing a lost or stolen identity card contains more steps than in the case of issuing an identity card for other reasons. Hence, costs in the former case are also higher”, says the Public Services Agency.

However, an undifferentiated fee of 130 lei is still available when applying to get an ID card in 30 days. “A subsidized fee has been established for the longest processing period of 30 days, which is lower than the actual costs incurred by the Agency in providing this service. In the case of shorter processing times, fees have been based on the technological data sheets and the actual costs”, says ASP.

Depending on the processing times, the differences between standard fees and fees for lost/stolen ID cards are the following: 15 days - 200 lei vs. 300 lei; 5 days - 390 lei vs. 590 lei; 24 hours - 520 lei vs. 780 lei; same day - 650 lei vs. 980 lei.

The Public Services Agency says that it is working on a new Nomenclature of services, where all the fees will be recalculated.
