At the general local elections of October 20, Serghei Toma is running for the position of general mayor of Chisinau on behalf of the Working People Political Party, a party led by him since its foundation in 1999. The candidate is 46 years old. He was born in Bender, Transnistrian region.
Serghei Toma is a veterinarian. Between 1988-1991 he studied at a veterinary college in Smolensk region, Russia. Subsequently, between 1992-1994 he was the head of the production section of a shoe factory in Bender, on the left bank of the Dniester, after which for the next two years he was the administrator of Stimoroll Romania. Two years later he became the development director of Diames Group, then the largest agricultural company in Moldova.
From 2000 to 2002 Serghei Toma was the operation development manager within a company in Moscow, Russia. The next three years he also worked in Moscow as deputy general manager of DKN Moscow construction company, on the construction projects management segment. From 2010 to 2016 he held management positions in a EU IT company.
From 2016 until now, the candidate is CEO of Hoos Technology LTD, with a 99% participation rate. The company is based in London, UK and specializes in the development of oil extraction technologies. The candidate also owns 75% of the capital of Bulpay LTD, registered and established in Bulgaria. Serghei Toma is concerned with the development of projects for household waste processing. For almost 20 years he has been fighting for the cause of environmental protection as an associate of Viitorul Verde organization.
In the income declaration submitted to the Chisinau Municipal Electoral Council, the candidate's family states that, between January 1, 2016- December 31, 2018, they have obtained revenues in the amount of almost one and a half million lei. The candidate's family also declares that since 2010 they own a car produced in 2007 and registered in Romania.
Sergei Toma is married. He has a 21-year-old daughter who studies medicine in the UK and an 18-year-old son who studies at an art college, also in the UK.
