U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan said 2018 was a year full of events and the Embassy welcomes the accomplishments and projects that marked this year. In a message on the occasion of the winter public holidays, the ambassador said he is hopeful that the new year will bring many new opportunities, IPN reports.

“For me and my family, 2018 was a year of major changes, especially after I was appointed as ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Moldova and we moved to live here, in your country. I was really impressed by the hospitability we enjoyed and I’m delighted to meet the new year together with you,” noted Dereck J. Hogan.

Among the accomplishments of 2018, the diplomat said that this year, through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, the multiannual project to restore historical frescos dating from the 17th century at the Assumption of the Mother of God Church in Căușeni was continued in concert with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. Also, hundreds of children of Kindergarten No. 13 of Soroca, the school of Cuhurești de Sus village of Florești district and the secondary school of Chetrosu village of Drochia district will enjoy better sanitary conditions owing to the renovations carried out with support from the U.S. Office of Military Cooperation.

Over 100 Moldovans could study in the U.S. through the exchange and education programs of the U.S. Embassy. Also this year, there was launched the Community Police Center in Sângerei that was fully repaired and outfitted with the assistance of the U.S. It is an innovative un concept for Moldova that is designed to improve interaction between the police and the community.

“I want to thank the 99 Peace Corps volunteers who work hand in hand with local colleagues in schools, NGOs and libraries in 83 localities in Moldova. I hope the new year will bring many new opportunities. I hope I will visit many localities in your country and will discover the beauty of the Moldovan landscapes of which I heard so much, will learn more about the traditions observed scrupulously here and will meet as many of you as possible,” stated Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan.
