“Romania continues to support the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova. We have confidence in the reform program assumed by President Maia Sandu. We have been and will continue to be near the Government of the Republic of Moldova. We are confident that a professional government will be invested swiftly in Chisinau and this will bring Moldova close to Europe,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu said after his meeting with President Maia Sandu. The Romanian official is paying a visit to Chisinau to hand over a vaccine donation, IPN reports.

“I’m glad that I’m the first official in the European Union who comes to Chisinau after the historical result of the July 11 elections. I’m glad that we can coordinate the close cooperation we have had the past few years for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Bogdan Aurescu.

According to the Romanian diplomat, the result of the snap parliamentary elections is remarkable and it opens Moldova’s road to stronger rule of law, to political stability and prosperity.

“The results of the parliamentary elections also create preconditions for the revitalization and extension of the strategic partnership between our countries, for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, for the revitalization and extension of the bilateral cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. We will be making every effort at bilateral and European levels to successfully respond to the aspirations of the citizens,” said Bogdan Aurescu.

For her part, President Maia Sandu thanked the Romanian official for the significant support received by the Republic of Moldova in time from Romania, in particular for the assistance in fighting COVID-19. “We received protective equipment for the medical system, particularly considerable donations of vaccine,” noted Maia Sandu.

Romania offered Moldova half a million COVID-19 vaccine doses. The neighboring country donated the largest volume of vaccine doses to Moldova so far.
