After water meters with distance reading were installed in the first 13 apartment buildings located on Negresteni St at end-March, similar meters will be set up in another 100 buildings. The list was approved in concert with the municipal billing enterprise “Infocom”, the Public Amenities Division and the water supplier SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau”. The lowest percentage of distribution of the difference in metered volumes was the main criteria used for selecting the blocks, IPN reports.
According to SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, as it was earlier agreed, ultrasonic water meters will be installed in 50 blocks and mechanical water meters in the other blocks. In several months of the installation, specialists of the company will be able to determine exactly the efficient of meters by price and quality.
The costs of about 5 million lei for installing new meters in the 100 buildings will be covered by the water supplier. A sum of €8 million is needed for replacing the meters in all the blocks of Chisinau.
“Apa-Canal Chisinau” director general Veronica Herta said water is consumed illegally in each fourth apartment and the difference in metered volumes derives from here. For this reason, the company aims to install water meters with distance reading in all the apartments of the city.
