Five houses in Gheltosu village of Cantemir district have been flooded as the water passed through the levee. Another 44 houses are in danger of being inundated. The water also covered a portion of the local road Gheltosu – Gotesti, Emergencies Service spokeswoman Liliana Puscasu told Info-Prim Neo.
The rescuers evacuated over 100 domestic animals as well as 1,180 sheep from the local farm.
As many as 2,200 hectares of farmland, including 1,700 hectares of corn and sunflower fields, have been flooded in Gotesti. A number of private gardens are also under threat.
A 200 meter long and three meter high levee was built along the Cantemir – Cahul road. The one kilometer long levee going along the railroad has been reinforced with 3,600 sacks of sand, clay and earth.
Fourteen homes risk being flooded in Stoianovca village. 114 persons have been evacuated from Tiganca village. An emergency medical care unit was opened in the local school.
The flood clean-up started in Ungheni district. The firefighters pumped about 10 tonnes of water out of the cellars of two houses.
