Bathing in the Prut and Nistru rivers is prohibited, except for the recreation areas with water bodies intended for rest and bathing. The warnings were issued by the Border Police before the feast of Epiphany, when the water is blessed and there is a tradition of bathing in cold water, IPN reports.

According to the Border Police, the measure is aimed at ensuring the security of the state border, given that the Prut and Nistru rivers are located in the border area, which is under a special protection regime.

The Border Police recommend the citizens to choose safe and approved locations for traditional Epiphany bathing, which meet all legal requirements and safety measures, to comply with the instructions of the authorities and the regulations regarding border areas.

The Orthodox Christians who observe the old church calendar celebrate Epiphany on January 19.
