A group of veterans dissatisfied with the way in which they are treated by the authorities mounted a protest with horns next to the Government Building. They complained that their problems are neglected, while the Premier refuses to have a meeting with them.

War veteran Nicolae Gîrbu, who was among the protesters, has told IPN that in July the veterans proposed support measures and expected that these will be examined and will be included in a legislative proposal that would offer real guarantees to the veterans. But this didn’t happen. None of the players that can formulate legislative initiatives turned their attention to the needs of veterans. It is humiliating for the war veterans to beg for an audience with the Premier.

The veterans said they need not occasional payments, but authentic guarantees. They ask for an adequate monthly allowance for persons who remained with disabilities as a result of war. Today they face poverty and cannot cover the costs for food and medicines. They survive and are far from enjoying decent living conditions.

Anatol Bâzgu, head of the Public Association “Movement of Transnistrian Refugees”, said the authorities argue that they do not have money when it goes to veterans, but find money for other categories of population. They promised to offer monthly allowances of 3,000 lei to veterans, but offer only 1,000 lei a month to them. “We asked for an audience with the Prime Minister to discuss all the problems. There are many problems and we realize that the authorities do not have funds to cover all the necessities, but they can deal with at least a part of them. They don’t yet do anything,” stated Anatol Bâzgu.
