The voting process at the polling stations in the country and abroad goes smoothly, without serious incidents. The turnout at 7m was over 43%, which is more than 1.3 million citizens marked their choice. All the polling stations were opened abroad, including in the U.S. and Canada. About 176,000 electors voted outside the country by 7pm, IPN reports, quoting the Central Election Commission.

CEC president Dorin Cimil said more than 2,000 ballots were used in over 26 polling stations. The largest number of citizens voted at two polling stations in Paris, over 3,000 people, and at polling stations in London, Bologna and Berlin.

The CEC received the copies of the election reports from the polling stations of Tokyo and Beijing. The preliminary results will be made known after all the polling stations in Moldova are closed.

About 30,000 persons voted at the 41 polling stations established for Transnistrian voters.

In general, approximately 54% of the voters are women and about 46% are men. The persons aged between 56 and 70 are the most active voters, while those younger than 25 remain the most passive ones.

A part of the challenges received by the CEC so far were dealt with.  Facts are being collected over some of them. The eight challenges concerning organized transportation of voters, campaigning and the activity of the inferior electoral bodies were directed to other responsible institutions.

Voting ends at 9pm and the electoral functionaries will start to count the ballots. The preliminary results will be made public when the information from election reports is introduced in the State Automated Information System “Alegeri”. Voting can be extended by at most two hours to enable all the citizens who queue up to vote.
