The votes cast for the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) will be recounted. The Centru district court of Chisinau accepted the vote recount request of the Party of Socialists (PSRM). In a communique, the PSRM says the court ruled that the vote recount must be performed within seven days of the passing of the decision, IPN reports.

The Socialists invoked a number of violations committed in the municipality of Chisinau. In a news conference centering on the results of the first round of local elections, the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon said the party will demand a recount, while in the suburban settlement Sangera will demand rerunning the elections.

“There were incidents at polling places in the suburbs, especially in Sangera, where councilors of the so-called pro-European parties barricaded themselves inside the polling place and didn’t allow signing the vote count reports. We will demand rerunning the elections in Sangera because, according to the preliminary information, the Socialists have a better score there and can win the 20th seat and will be thus able to form a majority coalition with other parties of the left in the CMC,” stated Dodon.

According to the preliminary results presented by the Central Election Commission after the June 14 elections, the PSRM won 31.71% of the vote (19 seats in the CMC), the Liberal Party – 29.54% (17 seats), the Electoral Block “Europeans People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca” – 11.55% (6 seats), the “Our Party” – 6.33% (3 seats, the Party of Communists – 5.14% (3 seats), the Liberal Democratic Party – 3.62%  (2 seats), while the  Democratic Party – 2.74% (1 seat).

The PSRM announced that it does not recognize the results of the run-off in Chisinau either and will challenge them in court.
