Over 72,364 voters participated in the constitutional referendum by 9:00 a.m., which is 2.66% of the number of voters put on electoral rolls, IPN reports.

The head of the Central Election Commission Angelica Caraman said that the turnout at the presidential election is presented in real time, but the figures on voters’ participation in the referendum will be announced separately, based on the information collected from polling stations. The figures reflect the situation an hour ago.

The CEC chairwoman noted that the electoral process runs normally, without major incidents. Over 200,000 citizens voted in the presidential election by 10:00 a.m., with a participation rate of 7.4%. The turnout is similar to the 2020 presidential election. About 16,300 electors voted at polling by 10:00 a.m. At the 30 polling stations opened for citizens from the left bank of the Nistru, 2,300 people voted.

As for the reports about the voting process in Russia, Caraman said that the two polling stations in Russia were provided with the maximum number of ballots – by 5,000 each. “On this occasion, we remind that the major risk to the security of both voters and electoral officials was the main reason why only two polling stations were organized in the Russian Federation was,” noted the CEC head.

The national constitutional referendum of October 20 will be validated if at least a third of the voters put on electoral rolls – about 940,000 voters – go to the polls. At the same time, the law will be considered adopted if the majority of electors at the referendum vote “Yes” to question “Are you for amending the Constitution for enshrining the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union in it?”.
