The Central Election Commission (CEC) is to announce the results after recounting the votes from the April 5 elections, but not earlier than in the afternoon. “The data are manually processed and that's why it takes time”, CEC secretary Iurie Ciocan has told Info-Prim Neo.
According to Ciocan, on Friday morning, almost all the data from the constituency commissions have been gathered, but it takes time to count, since there is no mechanized system. Ciocan says “anyway there won't be spectacular overturns.”
The official results announced by the CEC on April 8 show that 4 parties will enter the parliament, going past the 6% threshold. The Communists (PCRM) gained 49.48% votes (60 seats). They are followed from far by the Liberal Party (PL) with 13.14%, the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) – 12.43% (by 15 seats each) and Our Moldova Alliance gained 9.77% of the ballots (11 seats.)
61 votes of the parliamentarians are needed to elect the next president of the country. The vote recount was asked by the PCRM, after mass demonstrations in Chisinau. The political opposition questioned the decision of the Constitutional Court, say the real frauds are hidden in the voters lists and documents they voted with.
