Volume of freight transported over January-March declined

The railway, road, fluvial and air carriers during January-March this year transported 1.527,8 million tonnes of goods or 35.6% of the volume recorded in the corresponding period last year, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the National Bureau of Statistics. The road companies over the first three months carried 561,900 tonnes of goods, a 52.5% decrease compared with the same period last year. 946,500 tonnes of goods were transported by trains, down 69.4%. The grains and bakery products made up 43.6% of the goods loaded onto freight cars at the national stations, the ferrous metals and scrap metal – 21.7%, the imported goods - 11.1%, cement and other building materials – 8.2%. The fluvial and air companies conveyed 19,200 and, respectively, 0,200 tonnes of goods. As many as 24.726,8 million passengers were transported by buses and minibuses, a decrease of 10.1% year on year. 871,800 passengers used the trains (+1.2%), 73,100 passengers - the planes, while 14,000 passengers – fluvial units of transport. The data do not cover the economic entities working on the left bank of the Nistru and in Bender municipality.
