Famous surgeon Vladislav Brasoveanu on May 12 was conferred the honorific title of Doctor Honoris Causa. He thus became the first graduate of the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” (USMF) who obtained this title, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the USMF, surgeon Vladislav Brasoveanu heads the Center of Liver Transplantation “Dan Setlacec” of the Fundeni Clinical Institute of Bucharest. The foundation of the Transplant Program in Moldova in 2013, together with Professor Irinel Popescu, is one of the most important merits of this. This is the second center of the kind in the Romanian area. The first transplant of liver from living donor in Moldova was performed here with the participation of Vladislav Brasoveanu. For this, he was awarded the Labor Glory. One year later, he performed the first transplant of liver from cadaveric donor. He participated in the first 12 of the 20 liver transplant operations performed in Moldova so far.

USMF rector Ion Ababii expressed his gratitude to Vladislav Brasoveanu for the inestimable support he provided to the University in time and to the national health system, especially to the Moldovans suffering from serious hepatic diseases.

“The fact that Mister Brasoveanu is well known in Romania and at world level is due to the work done by many of those who are present here to form him. I would like to thank especially those who taught him the Hippocratic Oath, not the text, but the essence of this oath,” said the secretary of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament Niculae Mircovich.

Cristian Lupascu, of the Iasi University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Gr. T. Popa”, described Vladislav Brasoveanu as a great surgeon, great Romanian and a great friend. He announced that on May 11 there was inaugurated the third hepatic transplant center in the Romanian area, in Iasi.

The event also involved weightlifter Tudor Casapu, Olympic champion and the first patient who benefitted from liver transplant at the Fundeni Clinical Institute, where he was operated by Vladislav Brasoveanu six years ago.

At the end of the event, Vladislav Brasoveanu presented a short film about his life of transplant surgeon made by his colleague Dragos Zamfirescu. He said that things may look nice, but this is titanic work that involves a lot of devoted people.
