Moldova’s President and the leader of the Communist Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin made a call to the Moldovan people on Tuesday evening at the public television channel Moldova 1. Voronin described the protests in downtown Chisinau as a coup and accused the leaders of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Liberal Party (PL) and the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) of mounting it, Info-Prim Neo reports. “After the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections were announced and the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the observers of the European Parliament recognized them, the leaders of the parties that lost the elections decided to overthrow the government by violence. The incapacity to lose a democratic and honest competition and the disrespect for the law, the freely expressed will of the people and the European values and standards made the Opposition leaders choose the crime against Moldova,” the president says in his message. “This morning, Vlad Filat, Mihai Ghimpu and Serafim Urecheanu became practically the heads of the shot aimed at ousting the government from power. Everything that they did during the last days – seizure of the building of the residential administration, assault on the Parliament, profanation of the Moldovan flags – are nothing but elements of a putsch,” the president said. According to Voronin, the organizers of the putsch formed a human shield composed of students and pupils whom they mobilized in the square. “Their aims are obvious: to destroy the Moldovan state and liquidate the democracy.” Vladimir Voronin assured that the present government will permit no one to violate the human rights and ignore the law and will not satisfy the rash wishes of the occult and extremist forces that want to discredit the country and involve it in their dirty games. The message was broadcast after the leaders of the PCRM, PLDM, PL and AMN carried out talks. According to the president, the discussions produced no results because the leaders of the three parties deny responsibility for everything that happened. Vlad Filat, Dorin Chirtoaca and Serafim Urecheanu denied having organized the protests. They said they attended the rally to support the protesters and urged them to come to the Great National Assembly Square to protest peacefully.
