The leader of the Party of Communisis Vladimir Voronin, who held office of President of Moldova in 2001-2009, considers that Moldova didn’t really become an independent state. He said the country remains divided, economically and socially failed and captured by corrupt persons.

“Independence came unexpectedly. No one expected that the USSR can be destroyed by a group of traitors led by Gorbachev. All the statements made or written by so-called fighters for independence and democracy are false. It should be noted that namely because of these “traitors”, Moldova didn’t really become an independent state,” the ex-President said in a statement for IPN on the occasion of the 27th independence anniversary.

According to him, the citizens didn’t become more independent and are actually disoriented by the national projects implemented in the country. Consequently, the result is evident – the people leave the country in a large number, most of whom for good.

Vladimir Voronin said in such conditions it is impossible to forecast the future. “This future can be built only by consolidating the society that is represented by us, the citizens of this country. Only this way we can bring about radical changes that will lead Moldova to development as a really independent state,” noted the Communist leader.
