The President of Russia Vladimir Putin said the Russian Federation is ready to withdraw its contingent of peacekeepers from the Transnistrian region immediately after conditions are created and the dialogue between Tiraspol and Chisinau is stabilized. He made such statements in his annual press conference, IPN reports.

Vladimir Putin said he has heard representatives of different Western countries speaking about the necessity of withdrawing the Russian contingent from the Transnistrian region. Russia was close to do this when the President of the Republic of Moldova was Vladimir Voronin. But the process could not be completed owing to pressure exerted by the West on the then President.

The Kremlin leader also said that the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict has been postponed endlessly. This dispute should be yet resolved sooner or later.

In connection with the aforementioned, the official reminded that the President-elect of Moldova Maia Sandu holds also Romanian nationality.
