To pay tribute to Vladimir Beșleagă, the day of his funeral will be declared a day of national mourning. This was announced by President Maia Sandu, who sent a message of condolence in connection with the death of the writer, IPN reports.
"The man and writer Vladimir Beșleagă left us, but he bequeathed something extremely precious to us. He left us a rich literary legacy, in which we find sealed the turmoil of our people and the turmoil of our history and feelings. He left us a lot of warmth and kindness, a gentle wisdom, which guided us to love this nation from small to large," the head of state said.
The day of his funeral will be declared a day of national mourning. The state flags will be flown at half-mast, and public institutions and citizens are urged to observe a moment of silence in memory of the writer who marked our culture and national identity.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean wrote that all thoughts are with the writer's family and those close to him. "With every word, writer Vladimir Beșleagă taught us to fight – for democracy, for freedom and truth, to fight with courage, despite all the challenges and manipulations," noted the official.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu also sent a message of condolence. "It is with sorrow that I learned about the death of writer Vladimir Beșleagă – the patriarch of our literature, a man who, both in his career and in life, showed courage, generosity and simplicity. Thank you for the lessons taught as you were a model and source of inspiration," said the head of the legislature.
Vladimir Beșleagă was born on July 25, 1931 in Mălăieștu village of Grigoriopol district. His first novel, "Broken Flight" (1966), is recognized as one of the remarkable prose stories of the post-war period, one of the novels that changed the face of prose in Moldova.
The writer passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
