Vlad Filat became the victim of a system to which he was an accomplice, while Iurie Leanca is a decoration of Vladimir Plahotniuc, political analyst of the Jamestown Foundation and Eurasia Daily Monitor Vladimir Socor said in the program “Place for Dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.

“Vlad Filat was first an accomplice to this system and then he tolerated it. Afterward he endured it and ultimately became its victim. The Democratic Party is the one that now needs a coalition with the PLDM so as to use it as part of an umbrella that will be called the pro-European coalition. There is also the risk that Mihai Ghimpu and Iurie Leanca will not accept a coalition together with the Communists so as not to lose their voters. But the PDM needs a ‘beheaded’, captive and weak PLDM so as to secure its safety behind the shield of a European firm and to continue its interests,” stated Socor.

As to Iurie Leanca, the analyst considers that he is Vlad Plahotniuc’s man whose main mission is to divide the PLDM. “It’s clear that there is an agreement between Leanca and Plahotniuc, even if this is not made public. It became evident last year, when Leanca supported Victor Ponta in the campaign that preceded the presidential elections in Romania, even if Leanca formed part of the PLDM, which supported Klaus Iohannis. Now the PDM suggests dividing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the post of minister of European integration would be held by Iurie Leanca. Iurie Leanca could also become the Prime Minister of a government that will be fully controlled by the PDM,” said the analyst.

Vladimir Socor believes the European officials knew from the very beginning the situation in the Republic of Moldova, but didn’t intervene in the hope that things will change. “On the one hand, the EU offered a huge credit of trust to Moldova. On the other hand, the EU does not have a unilateral position. The Socialists from the European Parliament are tolerant towards the PDM. The European People’s Party supported the PLDM, but the German Christian-Democrats, who form part of the EPP, support Iurie Leanca and want this to take over the PLDM. I think that Moldovan Speaker Adrian Candu the coming days will be received in Brussels if not with benevolence than with indulgence,” he stated.

As to the loan that Romania was to provide to Moldova, Socor said this would have been a consequence of the personal relations between Victor Ponta and Vladimir Plahotniuc. “Klaus Iohannis couldn’t have accepted the provision of this loan as he would have become an accomplice of the rulers from Chisinau. The EU also didn’t approve of this financial assistance because it was unconditional. By blocking financing, the EU wants to make the official Chisinau to do reforms,” said Vladimir Socor.
