The sixth congress of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) reelected Vlad Filat as chairman of the party. Vlad Filat said he will work even harder and, together with his team, will initiate a broad information campaign centering on Moldova’s European integration. The event themed “Forward, not backward” involved 4,500 party members representing all the field organizations and over 300 invitees from abroad, IPN reports.
“I have a feeling of pride and satisfaction because, as a result of assiduous work, we achieved appropriate results. But this also means huge responsibility that we assumed before the people. I call on my colleagues to act the same way in the future. I assure you that the PLDM will continue to benefit from Europe’s support in order to transform Moldova in a free, democratic, prosperous and European state,” said the Liberal-Democratic leader, adding that the 2014 parliamentary elections will be decisive for Moldova’s European and democratic future.
Vlad Filat also thanked the colleagues from the government coalition. “If we hadn’t been together, we wouldn’t have achieved the results we achieved. We must learn to govern in a coalition. I call upon all my colleagues, starting with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and ending with the mayors from settlements, to hoist the EU flags alongside Moldova’s flag. We must now carry out a broad information campaign and go from house to house to explain the benefits of the membership in the EU to the people,” he stated.
First deputy chairman of the PLDM Iurie Leanca said that now Moldova is treated with respect and confidence by the foreign partners. That’s why the government is bound to continue the reforms.
In a video message, the President of the European People’s Party Joseph Daul welcomed the participants in the congress. Messages of support for Moldova’s European integration were also delivered by the Vice President of the European People’s Party Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament Elmar Brok and ex-President of Georgia Mihail Saakashvili.
The sixth congress of the PLDM adopted a political manifesto that defines the commitments that the party assumes as promoter of the irreversibility of the country’s European course and Moldova’s integration into the EU.
