Moldova’s former Prime Minister Vlad Filat appealed the Constitutional Court decision providing that he cannot apply for the post of Premier to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The announcement was made by Vlad Filat in the program “Politica” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.
The leader of the PLDM said that he appealed to the ECHR because his civilian rights were violated. In this connection, he stated that nobody will be able to prevent him from continuing his work.
According to Vlad Filat, the Court’s decision was political and, if the text was written by the Court, the intentions were influenced from outside. “It was a blow not to Vlad Filat, but to Moldova,” he stated.
The former Prime Minister also said that on April 25 the Democratic MP Vlad Plahotniuc came to the PLDM’s head office and, during discussions, assured him that he had no involvement with the Constitutional Court’s decision.
On April 22, the Constitutional Court ruled that President Nicolae Timofti’s decree to name Vlad Filat as a candidate for Prime Minister was unconstitutional. It argued that designating a person who is suspected of lack of integrity and who was dismissed based on corruption-related reasons for an executive post is against the rule of law principles. It also said that though the Government stated its objective to fight corruption, according to the censure motion adopted by Parliament, there are Cabinet members and other government functionaries who are investigated for acts of corruption.
