The PSRM has nothing to do with Igor Gorgan. His candidacy was promoted by the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) and coordinated with Western chancelleries, said the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vlad Batrîncea, who rejected any affinity of his party with the former chief of the General Staff Igor Gorgan, who is suspected of treason. Vlad Batrîncea noted that although former President Igor Dodon signed the decree appointing Gorgan as head of the General Staff, the then Prime Minister Maia Sandu agreed with this candidacy, IPN reports.

The Deputy Speaker said that the PSRM does not assume political responsibility for the actions of Igor Gorgan, former chief of the General Staff. According to Batrîncea, the Party of Socialists has no affinity with Igor Gorgan, although his candidacy was proposed in 2019 by Socialist Minister Pavel Voicu.

“The PSRM has nothing to do with Igor Gorgan. He was brought into the system and promoted at the time of the Alliance for European integration, and the candidacy was coordinated with a number of Western chancelleries. He was accepted in 2019 by Maia Sandu as prime minister. I don't know him and I have no interest, but Maia Sandu dismissed him in 2021. Years passed and overnight we wake up with this public scandal. Why is this scandal needed now? Maybe they want to camouflage the scandal with INTERPOL? When something happens, the PAS quickly provides a smokescreen,” Vlad Batrîncea stated in the talk show “Resumé” on RliveTV.

According to an investigation published by The Insider, Igor Gorgan was an informant for the Military Intelligence Service of Russian Federation (GRU). After the appearance of the investigation, the SIS confirmed the veracity of the published information.  Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Vlad Batrîncea said that he will wait for the court’s decision and will then pronounce on the potential illegalities committed by Igor Gorgan.

“Gorgan can have problems with the law in this regard, but there is a clear, legal procedure, and he must be convicted by the court. The judges should confirm or deny the alleged illegalities. I no longer believe in this political and televised justice. I want to see facts and the court’s decision. Igor Gorgan was not brought into the system by the PSRM. He was brought by the AEI, of which Maia Sandu formed part. In 2019, Maia Sandu was Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova and she fully supported this candidate. I have not seen any statement or action by her against this appointment,” stated the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

On June 13, the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) announced that the alleged subversive actions involving the former Chief of the General Staff Igor Gorgan are the subject of a criminal case.
