Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vlad Batrîncea, executive secretary of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, provided details about the unofficial discussions with Moldova’s foreign partners. According to the Socialist heavyweight, the country’s development partners see the deviations committed by the current government, but refrain from criticism due to the war in Ukraine. The Europeans keep a record of the mistakes made by the PAS government and will come with conclusions at the suitable moment, IPN reports.
The Deputy Speaker noted that Moldova’s foreign partners do not agree with the actions taken by the government to reform the justice sector, to amend the law on the prosecution service and with the suspension of the broadcast licenses of a number of TV channels, but refrain from leveling harsh criticism at the Party of Action and Solidarity. In private discussions, the European partners invoke the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis when they are asked about the witnessed backsliding.
“The government makes mistakes daily and becomes a very big disappointment for their partners from Europe. In unofficially discussions, the foreign partners tell us that they see everything, but the situation is difficult due to the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. That’s why our European partners are more reserved as regards statements and assessments. But they have institutions with very good institutional memory and all the actions of the PAS are monitored. Conclusions are being drawn and already started to appear. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe moved the Republic of Moldova from monitoring to advanced monitoring for the reason that the government subjugated the public broadcaster to Parliament and this is now party television. Those who are in power promised to the European partners that they will revoke this law that subjugates the public broadcaster to Parliament. The government didn’t do it and the European partners noted this down. The time of conclusions will come,” Vlad Batrîncea stated in the program “Résumé” on RliveTV channel.
He also said that the PSRM experiences unprecedented political pressure coming from the PAS. The government aims to obtain the destruction of this party and some of the members of the PSRM can therefore join the team led by Ion Ceban. That’s why they decided to hold the National Council of the PSRM immediately after the constituent congress of the National Alternative Movement.
“For Thursday, the Socialists convened the National Council. We will come with public statements and reactions. The PSRM has had the most difficult year in its history. Half of our MPs are investigated within political criminal cases. We witness enormous pressure, blackmail and attempts to make members of our parliamentary group leave. Some used blackmail, while others offered money, but we managed to keep the team, except one member,” noted the Deputy Speaker.
The National Alternative Movement led by mayor general of Chisinau Ion Ceban holds its constituent congress today. A week ago, Socialist MP Gaik Vartanean announced his intention to defect from the PSRM to the NAM.
