The Chisinau Appeals Court didn’t accept the prosecutors’ appeal against the Chisinau City Court’s decision to reject the request to remand the suspended chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari in custody. The information was confirmed for IPN by Vasile Foltea, the lawyer for Viorel Morari.
Viorel Morari was arrested on January 19 and was indicted for the fabrication of a case by order. He was charged on four counts, namely abuse of power, falsification of public documents, illegal detention or arrest and intentional prosecution of an innocent person. The suspected illegalities were committed in the case of brothers Igor and Adrian Borș, co-owners of the Vento network of gas stations, who were recently rehabilitated.
Viorel Morari was also arrested in January 2020 on charges of abuse of power, falsification of public documents and interference in prosecution. The case was sent to court one month later. Also then, the PGO announced that it started one more case against Morari, over unjust enrichment and laundering of considerable amounts of money by using his position.
Viorel Morari pleads not guilty. Until the last arrest, he was under judicial control.
