The holding of the European Political Community Summit will open up many ways for the economic development of the country. There will be discussed issues of an inestimable value for our country, such as energy security and interconnectivity, Viorel Chivriga, economic policy expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul”, stated in a public debate hosted by IPN.

“The summit has several very important aspects, alongside the general mobilization, informing of citizens, attraction of attention to such small countries as the Republic of Moldova and opens many opportunities for development and cooperation. Unprecedented mobilization is necessary. It is an extremely important event that should be treated by everyone, both by the state institutions and by the population, as an event that will change the perception of our country and our citizens,” stated Viorel Chivriga.

The expert noted that the costs incurred by Moldova to organize the event are much lower that the expected benefits. “The event needs to be organized very well. The impact must be very great and this would be a starting point for other international events. The Republic of Moldova hosted forums, but these are incomparable with those that are staged in the EU. This is a business and this event is an investment. Senior officials of EU member states come and subjects of an inestimable value are being discussed,” he said.

Viorel Chivriga also said that Moldova and its citizens, both from the country and the diaspora, should realize the historic importance of the event and of the unprecedented support given by the EU. “This credit of trust from which the Republic of Moldova benefits from the EU should lead to positive general mobilizations. We must find even more allies. A part of society realizes things very well, while others think differently,” stated the expert.

In this connection, he underlined the importance of the people’s support for the country’s development course. “It is very good that the European Moldova Assembly was held last Sunday. It was shown that such events can be staged. There is a crucial mass of people who wants changes and everyone should make the own contribution,” he noted.

As to the investment prospects for Moldova, Viorel Chivriga said that the war on the border will Ukraine makes the investors thoroughly analyze the existing security risks and the extent to which they can take them in the short run. In the long run, the perspectives are different, clearer. The countries after the war are rebuilt. The Republic of Moldova in 2022-2023 mobilized to cope with the refugee crisis, welcoming many people who do business in Ukraine. The biggest reforms are done in times of crisis, when there are situations that cannot be overcome at the moment.

The public debate entitled “European Political Community Summit – responsibilities and economic opportunities opened for the Republic of Moldova” was the fourth installment of IPN’s project “Support for European Integration by stimulating discussion in the mass media about the European Political Community (EPC) Summit” that is supported by Soros Foundation Moldova.
