The fire that happened at the shopping center located on Ismail St in Chisinau on January 23 started because the anti-fire rules when using the smoke and fire ventilation system were violated, deputy head of the Chisinau Emergencies Division Liviu Merzancu said in the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.

Liviu Merzancu stated that a grill to cook meat was installed on the first floor of the shopping center. This was set up without coordinating the action with the competent authorities. The fire started from a spark from which the fat deposited on the ventilation system caught fire. The flames extended swiftly and the building’s exterior and about 70 square meters of the roof were affected. The building was outfitted with a fire alarm system, but this didn’t start.

According to the authorities, the area where the fire started was rented by a Turkish man and Turkish traditional food was prepared there. If it turns out that the man is to blame for the fire, he will have to pay damages for the damage caused to the shopping center and the buildings located nearby.

The authorization issued to the economic entity will be suspended, while the working conditions in the bistro will be examined. The owner will be able to reopen the eatery only after the firefighters issue a relevant authorization. The last time the place where the fire occurred was last checked in 2014. There were identified no violations then.
