It is very important for Moldova to remain calm and to keep political unity, even if pressure is exerted on the country from outside. It is important especially because the Vilnius EaP Summit is approaching, the leader of the Liberals in Parliament Ion Hadarca said in the public debate “Post-scriptum: What should Moldovan society know and do over the ‘bothering ’ statements about the Republic of Moldova made by foreign officials?” that was staged by IPN News Agency..

Ion Hadarca referred to the latest statements and actions of Russian officials and the ban imposed by Russia on imports of Moldovan wine. He said that he does not see certain political culture in the East. “Russia has always acted like this towards its neighbors. I want to say that we make maximal effort and look humiliated,” he stated.

He also said that the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, who visited Moldova recently, was met with great pomp by the authorities in Chisinau. “In several days Russia imposed the embargo. We follow the set course, to the EU. Our Lithuanian friends warned us that the relations with those from the East will worsen before the Vilnius Summit. Lucidity is needed,” said Ion Hadarca.

According to the lawmaker, a number of foreign officials sent messages of support to Moldovans following the Russian embargo. “We approve of the reaction of those that we consider our true friends – the European countries. This gives us greater confidence. An important year is coming, when we will have elections. It is important to keep the unity of the political class and society. The wheel of history moves with difficulty now, but it is heading for the EU, where we belong,” he said.

Referring to the situation in the government coalition, Ion Hadarca said that serious dangers are created when grave antidemocratic internal deviations are hidden, while the Pro-European Coalition still witnesses lack of internal communication. “The maintaining of the government coalition, the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, its implementation and the ensuring of stability mean fulfillment of the electoral promises,” he stated.

The public debate “Post-scriptum: What should Moldovan society know and do over the ‘bothering’ statements about the Republic of Moldova made by foreign officials?” is the 21st of the series “Development of political culture by public debates”. The project is supported by the German foundation Hanns Seidel.
