Prosecutor Victoria Furtună, who resigned from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, went to court to ask that President Maia Sandu should pay her 1 million lei damages after the head of state didn’t respond to her request to publicly apologize to her.

“In only one month since the announcing of the declared danger to state security, I became the main danger for the country’s Presidential Office, according to unofficial sources of President Maia Sandu. I openly declare that I will continue to be the main danger, but for acts of corruption and flagrant violations of the law. My actions will further include that fight to counter and prevent acts of corruption and abuses committed by the rulers,” Victoria Furtună told a press conference hosted by IPN.

She noted that she was surprised in recent weeks by the President’s reactions when asked about her case, describing those reactions “sickly”. “I apologize to the journalists who were fined, penalized and verbally offended by the President of the Republic of Moldova. I see that Maia Sandu, even towards the end of her tenure, failed to become the President of the people, the President of the citizens and remained the president of the PAS,” said Victoria Furtună.

She accused the head of state of using the state instruments to struggle against citizens who disagree with her views. “A President is the guarantor of the law, but she actually violates flagrantly the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and is a President who only defends the interests of her party and the foreign partners,” noted Victoria Furtună.

“I filed a complaint to the Presidential Office of the Republic of Moldova for Missis President to apologize, but so far I haven’t received any response from her. That’s why I submitted to court a complaint to collect from Missis President 1 million lei, which will be redistributed to children’s homes,” said Victoria Furtună.

She also filed a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office over usurpation of state power, demanding to hold accountable persons who continue in an abusive manner to usurp the judicial power, only for personal purposes. “The usurpation of state power is the most serious crime against the people. The justice sector reform initiated in 2021, which was welcomed and long awaited by all of us, has been politicized and transformed into political abuse, thus undermining the independence of the judiciary and of the prosecutor’s office.”

Today, Victoria Furtună announced the creation of the public association “Vox Populi, Vox Dei”, which aims to monitor and reveal cases of grand corruption. According to her, it goes to those channels through which millions of lei are stolen from Moldova’s citizens.
