The European partners wait to see not only a plan of action like that presented by the new Government, but also concrete results. They realize that the Republic of Moldova goes through a very difficult economic and political crisis, but the transmitted messages are rather harsh, programs director at the Foreign Policy Association Victoria Bucataru said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN.

“There were imposed deadlines and particular reforms must be done as well as concrete steps by July. It was noted that transparency and efficiency of the police and rule of law agencies are the most important areas to which attention should be devoted,” stated Victoria Bucataru. According to her, progress needs to be made in investigating the bank fraud, which is a very important subject for the European partners.

Victoria Bucataru said it is as important for the political elites of Moldova to realize that if no essential changes are made in different areas and the key reforms stipulated in the Association Agreement are not done, the confidence that the European partners had until now, and which was lost, will not be regained soon. “You should know that our European partners no longer believe in declarative messages and this was proven by the recommendations formulated by the European Commission and in the meeting of the Association Council,” she said.

According to Victoria Bucataru, the Moldova-EU Association Council is a very important communication platform. This was created after the signing of the Association Agreement, a year ago. The Council’s meetings should be taken seriously because namely in them the European partners state their position on the progress made by Moldova and namely in this meeting Moldova received fewer encouragement messages and was familiarized with more conditions.
