“I propose forming a monstrous coalition because such coalitions played a major, progressive role in many states, including Romania,” Communist MP and outgoing First Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc said Wednesday after the sitting of the Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports. The ideologist of the Communist Party (PCRM) said that only the monstrous coalitions achieved positive results in the development of the states in the course of history. “In the present situation, when the Parliament and its bodies are elected, the Constitution envisions the formation of a temporary Government. If the Opposition and the power form a coalition, the head of state will also be elected. Only the goodwill of the Opposition is needed,” Stepaniuc said. The Deputy Prime Minister considers that the candidacy of Zinaida Greceanii that the Opposition rejected was a compromise solution. “Who can deny that the former Prime Minister, who had been Minister of Finance, is a competent and cultivated person and a good specialist? Everything in a state is based on finances. If the Opposition does not understand this, why should we talk about it?” Stepaniuc asked rhetorically. “I hope that more votes than needed will be cast on May 28. I respect our Opposition for their ability to make sensible decisions. We expect them to put forward a compromise solution,” Stepaniuc said. Asked by the journalists if Marian Lupu could be proposed for head of state, Stepaniuc said: “Who said this is not possible?” On May 20, the Parliament did not succeed in electing the head of state. Zinaida Greceanii obtained 60 votes, being only one vote short for being elected. All the votes were cast by the Communist MPs. The Opposition did not take part in the election.
