Geopolitically, the Republic of Moldova is at the intersection of two civilizations and this is a noxious factor for the combination of social efforts for mobilizing society so as to achieve the strategic objective. For Romania, for example, this geopolitical alternative didn’t exist and social cohesion was therefore ensured. That’s why the country easily integrated into the European and Euro-Atlantic areas. In the Republic of Moldova, the situation is much more difficult and many problems stem from here, Victor Juc, director of the Institute of Legal, Political and Sociological Research, stated in a public debate staged by IPN.
“The political factor in the Republic of Moldova centers on particular options existing in the divided society and tries to obtain state power. Society is divided into at least three segments: pro-West, pro-East and a kind a Moldovan statism, but we also have a particular indifference deriving from distrust in the state authorities and this results in migration. So, society in the Republic of Moldova is much more stratified and complex than other societies. In the West, there are particular phenomena, while in the Republic of Moldova there are different phenomena that are often hard to explain and transition therefore continues and its end is not near,” stated Victor Juc.
According to him, the Republic of Moldova needs political-juridical and socioeconomic modernization. “A rather favorable situation for the government was created. In Parliament, there is an absolute majority and the monocolor Government is supported by the Presidion. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova enjoys openness on the part of the development partners,” said Victor Juc, noting that people should realize that it is for their benefit for Moldova to be a democratic state with a functional market economy, with the observance of human rights and freedoms.
He noted that an open conflict in the relations between Romania and Moldova didn’t exist and the relations between the two counties will develop and extend, regardless of the governments that will manage Moldova. “In the relations with the Russian Federation, open conflicts existed in 1992 and then in 2006, when the ban on wine products was imposed, and later in 2014, together with the introduction of the ban on the import of fruit and vegetables. Currently, the Republic of Moldova cannot minimize the importance of the relations with the Russian Federation. For us, the Russian Federation remains a strategic partner, while the relations are cooperation relations that imply a particular does of conflict that should be non-antagonist, but there are yet aspects with a higher level of antagonism,” said Victor Juc.
