A number of members of the Association “Force of War Veterans” and of other organizations do not agree with the appointment of Constantin Covrig as adviser to the Prime Minister on problems of veterans because “he does not represent them”. Ion Batîr, who heads the Association “Force of War Veterans”, said that the one who was named adviser committed a raider attack on the association and pursued political and personal goals.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, war veteran Valentin Ţapeş, head of the Organization “Ialoveni Force of Veterans”, said that she disapproves of the appointment of Constantin Covrig as adviser to the Premier. “We don’t know based on what criteria he was named and why he was appointed to this post. We are over 50 associations in number and we registered with the Public Services Agency and we don’t know why we weren’t informed, invited and asked to give out consent and why a contest based on proposals from these over 50 associations wasn’t held,” stated Valentin Țapeș.

“This mister, when he appears in public, tries hard to show to his mates that he is on friendly terms with the government and that all veterans’ problems are solved only through his agency. We often saw this, including his pictures next to current and former MPs, in front of the Government Building. He always makes exaggerated statements that are not based on any legal reason. It is regrettable that this mister obtained that post through the back door,” said Valentin Țapeș.

Veaceslav Vîrlan, veteran, noted that it also goes to nepotism. Covrig is related to a former Premier and is also accused of being involved in illegal privatization in a settlement in Rezina district. “This person does not represent us. He does not represent me and does not represent my mates. What does he do in the Government Building then? Whose affairs does he manage? Whose interests does he promote? We are indignant and ask to review the appointment decision,” stated Veaceslav Vîrlan.

“I consider the appointment of Mister Constantin Covrig as representative of the veterans in the current government is a mistake. We believe that Mister Prime Minister didn’t have any right to name him to this post. An honest person with honor, who represents all the veterans in the Republic of Moldova, needs to be named to this post. This should be a veteran chosen at the general assembly of veterans,” stated Petru Roșca, head of the Organization “Ștefan Vodă Force of Veterans“.

The veterans called on the government to explain to them how this candidate was chosen and demand to reconsider the appointment decision.
