Veris Chisinau has three wins in the new season, on par with Dacia and FC Tiraspol. The team coached by Lilian Popescu trampled Academia 4-1, IPN reports.
After a dull and goalless first half, Veris stepped up the tempo after the break and scored four goals. Denis Calincov netted a brace with classy executions on 49 and 51 minutes. Academia pulled one back in the 68th minute thanks to Adama Kone. Just four minutes later, Dumitru Bacal scored from close range and Andrian Cascaval established the final score of 4-1 on 80 minutes.
“The defeat against Zimbru affected our morale. It was important to win against Academia to remain among the front-runners”, Veris coach Lilian Popescu told a press conference.
“Calincov came in after the break and made a difference. He also helped us like this last season. Veris has other players that can be decisive. I nonetheless think we didn't deserve to lose by such a margin. We hit the bar and missed another chance in the last minutes”, said Academia coach Vladimir Vusatii.
The other results of matchday 4 are: FC Costuleni - Sheriff 0-1, FC Tiraspol - Zimbru 2-1, Dacia – Dinamo Auto 2-0 and Saxan - Zaria 1-0. Dacia are top of the table, followed by FC Tiraspol and Veris with just one point less.
