Vehicles get stuck on snowy roads in northern Moldova

The bad weather disrupted traffic in the northern districts on Wednesday. A number of vehicles, including a school bus, got stuck in the snow and needed the assistance of rescuers to continue their way. A number of border crossing points with Romania were closed at night. The Border Police said the frontier posts Costești-Stânca, Lipcani- Rădăuți Prut and Sculeni-Sculen remain closed yet. The Romanian authorities maintained the traffic restrictions in Iasi and Botoșani Counties owing to the elements, IPN reports.

It continues to snow or there is sleet in parts of northern Moldova. During the night, employees of the Ungheni, Sculeni, Larga and Valea Mare Border Police Sectors helped persons whose cars got stuck in snow piles or skidded off the road.



Firefighters were called out to tow away a school bus carrying students, which got stuck on a road in Moșeni village of Râșcani district. Employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations also towed away vehicles that were stuck in the area, including a minibus without passengers in Borosenii Noi village.



On Wednesday afternoon, the movement of heavy trucks was limited on the national road R7 (R14 – Drochia – Costești – border with Romania), the Râșcani – Costești section. Officials of the State Road Administration have told IPN that at 9am the movement was allowed on one lane only, but the ordinary regime will be soon restored.

According to the State Road Administration, the dangerous road sections are being monitored and intervention measures are taken if necessary.



Motorists are urged to drive carefully and to adjust the speed to the conditions on the road and not to set off if their vehicles are not approximately equipped. In case of emergencies, traffic participants can call on 22-55-30; 74-89-61; 060 477 117 (Viber).
