Vegetable sellers block Armeneasca St in Chisinau

About 100 vendors selling vegetables near the Central Market in Chisinau Wednesday blocked Armeneasca St in protest against the tax of 100 lei for a selling place they were asked to pay. General Police Commissariat spokesman Adrian Jovmir has told Info-Prim Neo that the street had been blocked for about half an hour. Things calmed down only when deputy mayor Mihai Furtuna appeared and assured the protesters that they can trade without paying taxes. He said the taxes were imposed illegally and they will establish who is to blame for such a violation. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the director of the Central Market Ion Stratulat said the company’s administration imposed no tax and trade outside the market is not within its remit.
