Businessman Veaceslav Platon is subject to inhuman and degrading treatment in penitentiary and pressure is exerted on him in order to eliminate him from the process and to make him keep silent. Lawyer Valeriu Plesca told a news conference at IPN that Platon has been unable to benefit from dental assistance for a year.
“Since last July, he has asked for medical assistance, namely for the assistance of a dentist. We all know what toothache is. Then, the penitentiary’s administration said the dentist was on leave. The jail’s dentist returned from leave in two months. So, our client was left to suffer continuous pain. Later it was established that they do not have medical equipment and technologies for offering the required dental assistance,” stated the lawyer.
Valeriu Plesca said they demanded to also ensure the detained person’s right to benefit from private medical assistance, as it happens in many cases. But the contracted doctors ultimately refused to examine him and they suspect the doctors were pressed. “During a year, no dentist provided the necessary medical assistance to our client. He suffers unbearable pain. His state of health worsens daily,” noted the lawyer.
Lawyer for Platon Eduard Rudenko said they witness a situation when all those who try to prove who stole the money from the banking system, conduct investigations and present evidence are followed and subject to unprecedented pressure. For example, lawyer Ana Ursachi was punished because she started to represent Platon in court. Also, Ion Cretu carried out a number of investigations and is now prosecuted.
The lawyer noted he was charged with corruption, rape attempt and terrorist acts. Recently, he found a video camera in his car and another one at his home. “I don’t know if something like this can happen outside the surveillance and control of the state bodies. These do whatever they want, but do not investigate the theft of the billion or do what they should do to defend us. The situation is rather serious,” he stated.
The lawyers for businessman Veaceslav Platon on June 11 announced that a new criminal case was started against their client in order to make Platon responsible for the stealing of another billion lei. The defense noted the charge is based only on statements and there is no real evidence.
