Veaceslav Platon charged in criminal case in Russia

A criminal case was started against convicted fugitive Veaceslav Platon in the Russian Federation. Platon is accused of illegally taking 48 billion rubles out of the country through the Laundromat scheme, IPN reports, with reference to writes rbc.ru.

Earlier, Veaceslav Platon was found guilty of creating and leading a criminal association, as well as of withdrawing more than 126 billion rubles from Russia through the Moldovan bank Moldindconbank.

The quoted source said that from 2013 to 2014, Platon, being the de facto owner of Moldindconbank, coordinated the withdrawal of clients’ funds from Russia under the pretext of foreign exchange transactions with Russian banks. More than 20 Russian lending companies were involved in the money withdrawal scheme.

The publication also notes that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Moldova refused to extradite Veaceslav Platon to Russia.
